And There's More

I have been the Sensory, Performing Arts, and Art, co-ordinator for a special school for many years, and currently I am the specialist music subject leader in a local special school as well as a visiting music specialist in another.

I'm a national music and sensory course provider and have worked as a consultant to a number of UK special schools.

I have a B.Ed (Hons) in Curriculum Development and a M.Ed in Human Relations within the educational context. I am also a qualified yoga teacher and have trained in Remedial Massage and Bowen Therapy. G.I.F.T.S is the result of my experiences.

Why develop G.I.F.T.S?

Between schools, and sometimes even within them, I've seen staff working hard to make their special needs provision effective. But they're frequently working without a reference point to what has gone before and what is likely to follow.

I've therefore developed G.I.F.T.S to help schools ensure progression and development in their special needs provision. G.I.F.T.S eases the pressure on teachers to develop new materials. They can spend less time reinventing the wheel and more time engaging and delivering. Which helps them make their time in and out of the classroom both more effective - and more cost-effective.

For the young people who experience G.I.F.T.S schemes the results are clear. I am passionate about enabling children and young people with special needs to learn and enjoy life to the best of their ability. The schemes make the most of their capacity to learn. Improve their ability to make informed choices. Improve interaction. And it helps them do it in a clear, fun, informal and creative way.

Testimonial

Andy White, Music Advisor for Blackpool Borough Council

"Schemes of work are very thorough as are lesson plans... This lesson was one of the best I've ever seen. It involved practical music making... was totally inclusive and enjoyable. It highlighted rhythm, word setting and performance.

Pupils were able to perform as individuals and collectively. They did this with confidence and were encouraged throughout this lesson. The lesson moved at such a pace and yet there was even time for a relaxation session at the end... An excellent lesson."
